We develop new materials inspired by nature carried out by the biomineralization of bacteria that capture CO2. Biomimetic CaCO3 mineralization for carbon capture and storage offers potential as a stable CO2 capture technology.

Biotech solution inspired by nature
In BIOVAT, employment of bacterias in biomineralization of carbon dioxide by calcium carbonate precipitation offers novel and self-sustaining strategies for point-source carbon capture and sequestration. Bacteria precipitate dissolved CO2, around 8.3 tonnes CO2 were precipitated into Biovaterite. This technology show strong relevance to the SDGs for Zero Hunger (SDG2) Responsible consumption and production patterns (SDG12) and Life on land (SDG15).

The founder and CEO of Biovat Carolina Montoya began her research, convinced that bacteria are the solution to the great problems of humanity.Highlighting the importance of bacteria as beings loaded with valuable information for human transcendence
2001
The founder of Biovat C. Montoya conducts research with bacteria isolated from mines in Colombian territory,
to find its bimineralizing or calcifying capacities.Very useful capabilities for improving the mechanical properties of soils and materials such as concrete
2003-2005
C. Montoya found bacteria with bimineralizing capacities that hide great potential for the restoration of sculptures and improvement of infrastructures in civil engineering, as well as the synthesis of biogenic raw materials such as calcite-type calcium carbonates
2009-2011
The founder of Biovat C.Montoya identifies that bacteria with bimineralizing capacities have a high power to capture greenhouse gases. Biomimicry a roadmap and inspiration for climate change mitigation through the reduction of CO2 emissions
2012-2015
The founder of Biovat C.Montoya researches and promotes the biomineralizing capacities of 50 bacteria, in order to obtain new raw materials or bio-inputs of high importance for the food and cosmetics sector.

The founder of Biovat C. Montoya creates Start Up Biotecnologica leader in Colombia developer of raw materials that adheres to American pharmacopedia standards USP 2021.
